Introduction to ElderDog Canada

Aging people, aging dogs.  Supporting a vital connection.  ElderDog Canada is a 100% volunteer-run national registered charity with representation across Canada.  This presentation aims to introduce ElderDog Canada and highlight the services provided, as well as the organization's history and mission.  Details will be discussed on how ElderDog helps seniors keep their dogs at home for as long as possible.  All services provided are free of charge with the goal of helping keep love in the home.

Wendy Law is the Education and Outreach Coordinator for ElderDog Canada North and West Vancouver.  She became involved with ElderDog when her senior friend acquired a puppy, which led her to wonder what would happen to the dog if any difficulties with care arose.  Wendy moved to the north shore at a young age and has stayed in Lynn Valley ever since.  She currently lives with her husband and 2 rescue dogs, and she enjoys spending time walking together with them in local parks.

Rachel McDonnell is a Registered Massage Therapist and Registered Yoga Teacher in North Vancouver. She grew up on the north shore and lives in Lynn Valley with her husband and 13-year-old son, and spends as much time as possible running, biking, and hiking on our local trails. After losing her 14-year-old rescue dog, Miles, last year, Rachel heard about ElderDog volunteer opportunities from a patient and was thrilled to find a way to connect back to dogs and the community.
